 Frequently Asked Questions
  • When will we be notified of what team our child is on?
Teams are built and players assigned on Monday, June 14th. Coaches are given their rosters on Tuesday, June 15th. Schedules will be posted on-line on Saturday, June 19th. Players will be notified of what team they are on by Wednesday, June 16th by e-mail.

  • What kind of equipment do we need for this program?
For outdoors a "turf" shoe, sneaker, or soccer cleat is highly recommended. Shin guards are required to be worn during all soccer practices and games. A water bottle is recommended. Every player must have their own soccer ball for practice. The right size ball is very important. They come in three different sizes. Size #5 is for age 13 and up. Size #4 is for age U8 - U12. Size #3 is for age 8 and under. Dicks Sporting Goods has a great selection.

  • How are players placed on teams?
Players are placed randomly on each team based on their age, unless a request is made to be on a specific team or to be with a specific player.

  • Do we need a uniform and what does it cost if we need one?
All players will receive a Kenton jersey that is to be worn during games. There is no fee for the jersey. It is recommended that each player wear black shorts and white socks for games. Jersey's will be given to you at your first game or practice.

  • What happens if it is raining or if there is lightning?
Soccer players are tough; we play in "light" rain. We do NOT play in "heavy" rain or when "Lightning" is seen. Games may be suspended for a 30 minute period before restarting. If necessary, they will be cancelled and re-scheduled. Players should come to the field unless contacted by their coach or the league.

  • How many players are on the each roster?
It depends on the age group. Younger teams have fewer players on the roster and older teams have more players. Roster sizes range from 8-10 players per team to 15-17 players per team.

  • Are there any discounts?
Yes, families with more than one player in the league can take $10 off the registration fee for registering a second family member.

  • I thought soccer was played 11v11. Why do you play smaller sided games?
Kenton soccer promotes the use of small sided soccer games to provide a more enjoyable and educational experience for all of our players. Here are some of the reasons why we believe, as soccer coaches, administrators and parents must guarantee that our young soccer players play small-sided games: 1. Because we want our young soccer players to touch the soccer ball more often and become more skillful with it! (Individual technical development) 2. Because we want our young soccer players to make more, less-complicated decisions during the game! (Tactical development) 3. Because we want our young soccer players to be more physically efficient in the field space they are playing in! (Reduced field size) 4. Because we want our young soccer players to have more individual teaching time with the coach! Fewer players on the field and fewer players on the team will guarantee this! (Need to feel worthy and need to feel important) 5. Because we want our young soccer players to have more, involved playing time in the game! (More opportunity to solve problems that only the game presents) 6. Because we want our young soccer players to have more opportunity to play on both sides of the ball! (More exposure to attacking and defending situations) 7. Because we want our young soccer players to have more opportunities to score goals! (Pure excitement) These are the reasons why we adults must foster "Small-Sided Games" in our youth soccer programs. The "Small-Sided" environment is a developmentally appropriate environment

PARENTS PLEDGE and CODE OF CONDUCT : As a parent and spectator you play a very important role in the sporting experience of your child and the enjoyment that all other children have. As such we insist that you set the primary example for sportsmanship. Referees will make mistakes, players will make mistakes and coaches will make mistakes. You will only yell encouragement to the entire team. Refrain from making negative comments to the referee or the opposing team. Relinquish responsibility for athletes to the coach during the game. Applaud performances and effort demonstrated by both teams. Instill and reinforce the competition as a game and sport, not a war. Help a young athlete see the POSITIVE side if disappointment occurs by only pointing out the positive, not the "buts" or "mistakes" when replaying the game later. Regrettably, failure to comply with these reasonable requests will result in you and your child’s removal from the program.
