PROGRAM - we are accepting registrations for our SUMMER "Micro Soccer" Academy training session for beginner and intermediate boys and girls ages 4-10 years old , looking to build and improve their skills. Player development is emphasized using fun activities and actual games. Learn to pass, dribble, shoot and the principles of Attacking and Defending. You never out grow the need for quality training. Our training activities are created to help each player improve in these areas: technical (skills), tactical (decision-making), physical (fitness) and psychological (mental confidence). A progression of simple to complex using a combination of specific fun drills and ending in so called "small-sided" games (3v3 or 4v4) are used to promote a relaxed feeling with the ball on their foot. Our outstanding, qualified and experienced staff is ready to teach, challenge and provide the guidance your child needs to be successful in the game of soccer. Set for Friday evenings from 7:00 - 8:00pm, outdoors at Kenney Field (Colvin and Brighton) and on one Tuesday ( July 29th ) from 5:00 - 6:00 pm. Call John White at 873-0610 to reserve your spot, then download the form below and bring it with you Friday, July 11th at 6:45pm to the concession stand. Resident is defined as living or attending school in Kenmore or the Town of Tonawanda.
EQUIPMENT NEEDED - Each player must bring their own water bottle (concession stand will be open) and soccer ball. The right size ball is very important. They come in three sizes and vary by age. Size #5 is for 12 years old and up, Size #4 is for ages 8 - 12, and Size #3 is for 8 years old and younger. Shinguards are recommended but not mandatory. Dicks Sporting Goods has a great selection, just make sure the ball is hard before you purchase it or you will be constantly filling it up with air.
KENTON SOCCER RECOMMENDATION - Although we encourage each player to participate in both Micro soccer and one of our Recreational game leagues...... if you can only do one , we feel that your child would benefit the most from the Micro soccer training program which teaches and strengthens the skills necessary to be successful in a game. In "micro" soccer every single player has their own ball to work with (maximum touches). In a recreational league game, one ball is shared by all players (fewer touches).
FUTURE SESSIONS - This program has been so successful that it is going to be held year round with sessions scheduled in the Spring, Summer , Fall, Winter "A" & Winter "B". Keep checking our website for the latest info. The future "Fall" session is tentatively scheduled to start September 2nd indoors at Brighton Arena on Mondays and Tuesdays from 4:15 - 5:15 pm.
